An Easy Way to Help

Unless you've been living under a rock for a while, you've heard about the disasterous earthquake that hit Haiti. The earthquake, which measured around a magnitude 7.0, was centered just southwest of Port-au-Prince.
Initially, the Red Cross estimated there would be between 45 and 50 thousand casualties; the current estimate is around 200,000. Roughly 3 million people were effected by the disaster, being displaced from their homes, with no food, water, or shelter. If you compare that to the 1994 Northridge earthquake in Los Angeles, which killed 72 people and injured 9,000, you will start to get and idea of how serious conditions are in Haiti.
So why am I writing this? Because there is, in fact, a very easy way to help. The American Red Cross, with the help of the US State Department, mGive, and Mobile Accord, have created a system that you can use to make a donation to the Red Cross via your cell phone. All you have to do is text the word "HAITI" to 90999, and a $10 donation will be added to your next phone bill. It's that easy.
They need our help, any way we can give it. If you can't afford to donate (or even if you can), they need our prayers as well. We all have that to give, so give your prayers generously.

Excellent!
Lupo — January 20, 2010 - 1:28pmThanks for the info, Scotty... I hadn't checked the site yet. Of course there are many, many ways you can help. Check with your church to see if they're fundraising, or go to your favorite charity's website. And of course they need your prayers right now.
