Strange days

Yesterday was a wild one. Maywood had a great morning at Prindle Studios and Eatery (thanks Liz for another awesome meal), writing/editing songs and working a little bit on the record. But that was just the beginning.
I returned to my hotel room at Casa de Lupo, where Heidi was sick as all get out (that's a phrase we say out here in the sticks). We blame it on late-night fast food from Friday night, where we went to an un-named fast food chain. I don't want to name names, since so many people read this, and I'd hate to ruin their reputation by dragging their name through the mud. Regardless, we're pretty sure Heidi got food poisoning, because she was sick all morning and afternoon. By mid-afternoon we'd decided to take her to the hospital, which created quite a snafu with our evening plans - we were the key persons in Aaron's surprise 30th birthday party.
Some interesting facts about the number 30:
- Jesus Christ was 30 years old when he was baptized by John the Baptist
- There is a total of 30 major and minor keys in Western tonal music, including enharmonic equivalents
- 30 is the minimum age for U.S. Senators
- There is a total of 30 tracks on the Beatles eponymous album (commonly known as The White Album)
- According to Erik Erikson's stages of human development, 30 is the median age for a "young adult" (ages 20-40)
As we were responsible for being there to open the door for everyone, picking up the cake, and generally quarterbacking the whole evening along with the beautiful Jessica Lupo (who served as the guinea pig, taking Aaron out for barbecue while their friends surreptitiously infested their home), our sudden departure for the E.R. left our plans in disarray - compounded by the fact that Aaron right there alongside us at the house, keeping us from being able to actually discuss how the heck we were going to do anything about it.
When we left the Lupo's for the ER, I stashed the house key in the drain pipe and called Joel and Jared. I later called Aaron's brother Dave, who I found had been called by Jess. Dave and his witty (and surprisingly strong-handshaking) girlfriend Molly had taken on the duty of picking up the cake, etc. and saved the day. Way to go, Dave and Molly!
Heidi was tended to and after she was hydrated and got a good nap in, she was discharged. She and I left the ER and returned to the Lupo's, having missed the big surprise. Still, it was a fun night of fellowship, Wii bowling, and by the end of the evening we were singing, playing guitars and drumming on guitar cases. I even grabbed a shaker of Roasted Herb and Garlic, which served adequately for added percussion. We were blessed to share the floor with the lovely Julia Pickert of Lampstand 7, and hopefully that is not the last time we'll be singing with her! Heidi felt better as the night went on and joined the rest of us when the music came on. All in all - a fun day. An exhausting one for sure. But still, a good day (any day in which KU basketball loses is a good day if you ask me).
